Reading is extremely critical throughout the year, but it becomes even more critical during the summer months. Summer break is typically a time for children to relax and enjoy not having schoolwork to worry about. However, all this free time can lead to the “summer slide,” otherwise known as a regression in academic proficiency.
On average, about 20% of their school-year gains in reading over the summer months. Experts have found that novelty stimulates the brain and promotes learning.
To help combat the “summer slide” for the children of Phelps County, LyonHeart will be teaming with the
Holdrege Area Public Library to launch our newest program, Traveling Tails, in conjunction with their summer reading kickoff program.
